A Burntwood councillor is calling on Lichfield District Council to look into the £250million of funding being made available by the government to help reintroduce weekly bin collections.

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles revealed the plan at the Conservative Party Conference this week.

Cllr Steve Norman, leader of the Labour group on Lichfield District Council, described the funding as a “bung” but has called on the authority to investigate the funding opportunity.

He has tabled a question for the next meeting of the council which is set to take place on October 11.

His question to the Chairman of the Operational Services Leisure, Parks and Play (Overview and Scrutiny) Committee read:

The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles MP has announced funding of up to £250m to enable councils to reintroduce weekly collections of refuse, composting and recyclables.

As Councillor Mrs Flowith did not reject this offer outright in her news release issued on September 30 and of course this funding was not available previously will he ensure that the Overview and Scrutiny Committee investigates this funding opportunity as soon as possible?
